How to cleanse rose quartz

You can cleanse rose quartz with…

Meditation and visualization

If you enjoy meditating, you can use meditation and an easy visualization exercise to cleanse your rose quartz. Before you get started, make sure that you have a real rose quartz crystal and not a fake.

To cleanse rose quartz with visualization, take a good look at your crystal to get an idea of its shape and color.

Close your hand with the rose quartz in it. Then close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, coming back to your center and forgetting about the outside world.

Now picture the crystal you are holding in your hand. See the crystal’s shape and color in your mind. Keep picturing it until you have a clear view of it in your mind’s eye.

Start visualizing clean, clear spring water gently washing over the crystal. The stream can be as strong or as gentle as you wish, and it can wash the crystal for as long as you are happy with the meditation practice.

Once the crystal has been “washed” clean, picture it rising from the stream into warm, pure sunlight. Try to see the water beads of negativity evaporating from the crystal in the sun’s rays, until all that’s left is a shiny, cleansed crystal in your hand.

Slowly bring yourself back to the present with your cleansed crystal.

Soil

Mother Nature and the Earth are wonderful crystal creators and crystal cleansers. Find out how rose quartz forms and gets its color in this article.

Cleanse rose quartz by placing it in soil, either in the ground where there is good plant growth or in a plant pot with a healthy plant. Cover the crystal with soil, so you cannot see it. You want the soil to touch all parts of the crystal in order to absorb any negativity and protect the crystal.

Cover rose quartz in healthy soil to cleanse it.

Don’t put your crystal anywhere a child or animal might find it and swallow it.

Leave your quartz in the soil for at least 24 hours before rinsing it in soapy water, rinsing it off with clean water, and patting it dry.

Smudging

Smudging is used in ceremonies to remove negativity with the smoke of burning leaves. The smoke released from these burning leaves is passed over a person, around an area, or over a crystal to cleanse it.

A sage smudge is most popular for cleansing, especially these white sage sticks, but you can also use smudges made from Palo Santo wood, cedar, sweetgrass, juniper, or yerba santa.

If you’d like to spoil yourself, these handmade floral smudge kits from Amazon to make your crystal cleansing ceremony that much more beautiful.

To cleanse rose quartz with a smudge:

  • Go outside or into a well-ventilated room, where the smoke won’t bother you.
  • Light the smudge with a wooden match, if you have one.
  • Gently blow out the flame, making sure that the smudge keeps on smoking.
  • Hold your crystal in the smudge’s smoke. Make sure the smoke touches every part of the rose quartz by slowly turning the quartz over (like a rotisserie chicken) and circling the smudge around the crystal.

If you are lucky enough to have a deluxe smudging kit, blow the smoke over your crystal with the feather to represent the element of air passing over your crystal.

  • Do this for as long as your intuition tells you, but make sure the smoke touches each part of the crystal at least three times.
  • Once you’re done, let the smudge stick burn to the end or put it out in sand. Make sure that it is completely dead before packing it away.
  • Sprinkle any ashes from the smudging process on the ground outside, for the soil to absorb the negativity from the crystal.

Incense

You can cleanse rose quartz with the smoke from incense, much like you use the smoke from a smudge stick.

Any type of incense works to cleanse rose quartz, but many seasoned crystal fans enjoy the smell of cedar incense blocks, white sage, frankincense and myrrh, or organic sandalwood incense for this purpose.

If you want to use a candle’s smoke instead of smoke from incense or a smudge, try this Magnificent pure white sage smudge candle.

To cleanse rose quartz with incense, light the incense stick and gently blow out the flame.

Hold your crystal in the incense smoke and slowly turn the crystal over three times, to allow the smoke enough time to properly cleanse the quartz.

This should take about a minute to do, but you can leave it in the smoke for longer if you feel the crystal needs extra cleansing.

If you burn your incense in a covered holder, like this handmade distressed wood box, place your rose quartz crystals inside the box, light the incense, close the lid, and leave your crystals in there to be cleansed by the smoke until the incense stick has finished burning. This is a great way to cleanse multiple crystals at the same time.

Breath

Your own breath can be very powerful when it comes to crystal cleansing.

To cleanse rose quartz with your breath, sit down with the crystal closed in your hand. Close your eyes and take 10 slow, deep breaths, breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Once you are completely calm, imagine a bright, warm light around yourself. Slowly open your eyes and bring your open hands and crystal close to your mouth.

Continue to breathe slowly, taking in air through your nose. When you exhale, exhale strongly out of your mouth and push this breath directly onto the crystal in your hands.

Make your breaths intentional and imagine the light that is surrounding you passing through your breath and over your crystal.

Turn your crystal over with each breath, to make sure that you breathe on each side at least once.

Do this for as long as you feel you should, but you can stop after about four full breaths if that is enough for you.

Water

Water has both healing and cleansing properties, which makes it a great way to cleanse rose quartz. Each crystal should be cleansed separately in its own water to avoid mixing crystal energies and reducing the water’s cleansing power.

Rainwater, water from a stream, sea water, running fountain water, or even water from a faucet can be used to cleanse rose quartz. The water needs to be lukewarm. If it’s hot or icy cold, the crystal’s energy could be disturbed and become unbalanced.

To cleanse a new rose quartz crystal, place it in a bowl of still water or sea water and leave it overnight. If you don’t have access to sea water, make a saltwater solution by dissolving a tablespoon or two of sea salt, rock salt, or Himalayan salt in warm water and let it come back to room temperature.

Cover rose quartz crystal with water and leave it overnight to be cleansed.

Salt makes the water’s cleansing properties stronger and has a fantastic purifying effect.

Choose a bowl or container made from natural materials, if possible. Don’t ever use a metal bowl for crystal cleansing.

If you want to cleanse and recharge a rose quartz crystal that you already have, or that you need to remove negative energy from, use moving water. Place the crystal under running water, in a stream, in the ocean, or out in the rain for a few minutes to a few hours.

It’s believed that running water washes away all harmful and negative energy from the crystal and takes it back into the earth, where it is healed.

Once you’ve cleansed your crystal with water, pat it dry with a clean cloth. If you used saltwater or sea water, rinse the crystal with lukewarm water to remove the salt before patting it dry.

Sunlight

Sunlight can have a wonderful cleansing and energizing effect on rose quartz.

To keep your crystal cleansed, place it out in a sunny spot at dawn or in the morning before 10 am. Don’t touch your crystal during this time.

Leave the crystal out in the sun for about an hour and, if you can, place it on the ground during this time for the earth to support your cleansing.

Rose quartz doesn’t fade in the sun.

If there is fading, there’s a chance you have pink quartz and not rose quartz. Pink quartz is rare, but if you do have it don’t put it out in the sun. If it fades, you can get the color back with an irradiator, like this one from Amazon.

You can read more about it in this guide I wrote about rose quartz.

Moonlight

The moon’s rays cleanse rose quartz very well and have a calming effect on these crystals.

Click here to check when there will be a full moon or waning moon in your area – you’ll need to search for your city in the top right search bar on the website.

Once you find the moon phases for your area, look for the next full moon or waning moon, as these are the best times to cleanse a crystal in moonlight.

  • A full moon is when the entire moon is visible, so you see a bright, complete circle of the moon. A waning moon comes after a full moon, when the moon starts becoming smaller in the sky.

Place your rose quartz crystal outside at sunset, or under a full moon or waning moon, to be cleansed. It’s best to put the crystal in direct moonlight and on the ground, where negative energy can be absorbed.

Leave it out overnight if you can, but be sure to bring it in before the sun gets too strong the next morning (before 10 am if it’s a sunny day).

Sound

If you’d like to try something different and you want to be part of the crystal cleansing, try cleansing rose quartz with sound.

The idea is to gently push negative energy away from the crystal with vibrations from a sound that you make.

To cleanse rose quartz with sound, place the crystal near you, no more than 3 feet away. The closer your crystal is to the sound, the stronger the sound vibration will be and the better this will work.

The area between you and the crystal should be clear and free from any objects, so that the sound vibrations can move freely and cover the crystal easily.

When you’re seated comfortably, relax and start making your chosen sound.

You can either chant by making the “om” sound over and over, play a singing bowl like this one from Amazon, use meditation chimes, or play cymbals. You could even combine two of these by chanting and using one of the other instruments.

Continue making the sound for at least two to three minutes if you can.

Selenite crystal

Selenite is a cleansing crystal that can be used to cleanse rose quartz quickly and easily.

To cleanse rose quartz, place the quartz in a selenite crystal bowl. These bowls are known as “crystal charging stations” because they release negative energy from all crystals, including rose quartz. If you keep one in your home you can use it to cleanse and recharge crystals whenever needed.

If you don’t have a selenite bowl, put rose quartz on selenite crystals for the same cleansing effect. Try to get enough selenite sticks to wrap them around your quartz – underneath, on its sides, and on top of the rose quartz, so the selenite touches all sides of the rose quartz.

If you don’t have selenite on hand, replace the selenite with another cleansing crystal such as amethyst, carnelian, or black obsidian. There needs to be more of the cleansing crystal than the rose quartz for the cleansing crystal to be able to absorb what it needs to absorb from the rose quartz.

Himalayan salt

Salt has a wonderful purifying effect and is known to bring enduring and positive energy to rose quartz.

It’s best to cleanse rose quartz with Himalayan salt, an ancient pink salt from the base of the Himalaya mountains, where it was discovered back in 320 BC.

To cleanse rose quartz with salt, fill a shallow bowl, drinking glass, or vase with pure Himalayan crystal salt or larger salt stones. Bury the rose quartz in the salt and leave it there for at least 24 hours, or longer if you prefer.

Cover rose quartz with salt stones in a glass bowl to cleanse the crystal.

The bowl of salt can be reused many times to cleanse or store your rose quartz. Simply replace the salt when you feel that it has lost its power and is no longer effective.

Once a crystal has been cleansed with salt, rinse it under clean water to remove any salt residue on it, then pat it dry with a soft cloth.

Another salt cleansing option is to use a pure Himalayan salt lamp: Place rose quartz next to the lamp and let the crystal bathe in the lamp’s light for several hours. Then turn the crystal over to expose its other side to the lamp’s light.

Brown rice

Brown rice has the ability to cleanse rose quartz by absorbing negativity. Simply bury the crystal in a shallow bed of dry brown rice and leave it there overnight, or longer if you want.

The brown rice will absorb all the negative energy from the crystal. When you’re done with the cleansing, thank the rice and throw it out.
